As Mayor for the past 12 years, I’ve watched Oakland experience rapid residential growth, with people attracted to our low tax rates, affordable housing, safe environment and easy access to larger metropolitan areas. New opportunities for retail and commercial development have followed the residential growth, bringing to Oakland residents big city conveniences while maintaining our friendly, small town atmosphere.

As our population has grown, Oakland has worked hard to provide services that exceed the community’s expectations. We are a Storm Ready Community (the second in the State of Tennessee to reach that status) with a state-of-the-art emergency operations center. Our police and fire departments protect our community 24 hours a day, and in fact, Oakland is proud to have the best ISO rating of any community in Fayette County. The city has maintained its debt-free status, in spite of building a new $6,000,000 wastewater treatment facility, and our sanitation department provides twice-a-week pickup to residents in our community. Our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department is busy planning and implementing new parks and recreational programs for children and seniors in our community.
